Yes instead of a green glowing "GM" above out heads we can have red glowing "LM" for Lynch Mob. Then walk around in game towns observing conversations. I also think we should get bright red armbands of some kind. Do you think ANET would agree? We also need a motto to live by like this one.

"For the Greater Good!"

Honestly have any of you seen Hot Fuzz to understand the humor of what I just said?

/satire

Don't get me wrong and I appreciate what your trying to do but I have confidence ANET will do a fine job of banning the exploiters. If you have information you should contact support or [email protected] .

On a personal note if you do in fact do this. I also believe in order for this to work you need some strict guidelines and rules so the innocent are not adjudicated unfairly. That is also my overall primary concern.

lol its so funny

OP sounds just like Cartman in 1 of the episodes - when Cartman was told that he wont get any x-mas presents cos he did too many bad things and started *x-mas for iraqie childern* campaign to make sure he'll get back on good list be4 the x-mas (honestly believeing that singing x-mas songs will help him to get the present he wanted).
i see no reason to start a witchhunt unless some ppl actually somehow participated in duping/selling activities and just like Cartman believe that being rly loud on forums will help them to get their names clean in case anet will find out some fishy transactions and decide to ban them

Wow, that's kind of scary, I JUST watched Hot Fuzz like 2 days ago ._. yeah, I got it. We also need people in scary hoods and mass murders.

GMs need to be more prevalant and need to see what's going on. I really don't like the idea of a "visible" GM though, just more of a covert watching.

Really tbh, we already get together and expose dupes, scams, cheating and flaws in the game already... On here.

Meeting in game is rather pointless, lets just carry on doing what we do. Collecting theories and evidence in a solid thread for anet to reference from in their investigations.

I think the OP is asking for a certain kind of "watch" and info that the majority of us aren't privy to and should keep our noses out of. The true high end market is comparitively small and they "know" each other. I'm part of the upper middle class of gw I'd guess, very comfy with my "wealth" but most definately not at that level. I didn't get the vibe that they're starting some sort of armband wearing patrol group here, just that they have info on CERTAIN very high end dupers and want to orginize that info cohesively to stop them. Correct me if I'm wrong please Max! I say go for it guys.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. From reading the many posts here and on other forums, not only armbraces were dupable. Is this brigade going to go after those who duped other items as well? If no, why not, and why the double standard? If yes, how can you make sure that this do not turn into a witch hunt?

Yes.

I have already reported someone for possibly doing that with ecto. The individual was offering an insane amount of ecto for a mini pet which is no way near worth that. Tons of people concluded he must have duped them as no gold buyer would be so stupid.

There is nothing wrong with helping Anet remove people who their "first sweep" failed to pick up.

Bleh. The Crimson Knights all over again.

You are all players, not game admins or mods. Leave the hunt to those with access to the logs.

I am not now, nor have I ever been a member of the Communist Party....

Those who do not remember history are doomed to repeat it.

Let it go, report those you have proof of wrongdoing, definitive proof.

Do not report somebody just because YOU think they are offering more ectos than they should. And perhaps you are correct Herbalizer, maybe it was 4 stacks of 250 ectos for a Jungle Troll which is a bit odd, but this will quickly degenerate to, well hey that guy is willing to pay 10 ecto more than me, so I will report him.

Just like the duping itself, it started out small, an ecto here, a black dye there, months later as more people found out about it it became gazillion stacks of 250 AoT's.

Do not bother Anet with alot of speculation and nonsense. I'm sure those high end dupers are being looked into at this very moment.

it is very loose in the EULA about ingame 'crime watchers' and it just might blow up in your own faces.

I personally think Anet have different movtivation and stakes in this whole mess then the players, Anet just want this thing to blow over and in a way where is appears they did the "right" thing especially due to the release of Gwen.

So I don't think they will have the drive to punish anyway near all the peoples that benefited from this bug, they also imo lack the transparency in this whole matter partly I think to make players think they are doing more about it then they actually are.

What it looks like to me is that Anet did a mass banning in the armbrace incident, which was pretty much triggered by some exploit/hacking site selling information on how to do this (why anet doesn't suscribe to these sites I'll never understand) but it appears smarter players have known about this before it entered the "public knowledge" domain and the flux of morons duping and trading tons of armbraces.....

I also find it curious that anet did not post a update note for removing the reconnect feature and they still haven't posted any public excuse for it. (which I think is prudent, considering the amount of time a lot of the traders in this game spend on it and how much it devalues they're effort)

To end I personally believe it's up to the player community to make Anet do a sufficient clean up of this mess, make them transparent enough to know what they actually did about it and finally make them screw up a lesser percentage of the updates. I mean ffs they almost always screw up some feature/skill in theire updates it seems like.

I guess common sense would usually apply when in situations like this. However, experience tells me, the first thing an angry mob would do is throw away common sense.

To ensure the brigade can function at its top capabilities, I suggest letting things cool down a bit before going after those who felt through the crack by Anet's "first sweep". Easier to catch them when their guard is down. Let's face it, duped items that worth something will need to be sold to make a profit eventually. Now isn't the best time to move such hot items.

However, judging from the OP, you know something that the rest of us don't. So best of luck to all those who wish to be involved.

I just seriously hope this will not turn into a witch hunt, since ANYTHING could have been duped.

My two cents

I'm so confused right now. How does this thread Anet help to catch undetected dupers? This is a genuine question and not criticism or wit of any kind.

Vagueness really baffles the life out of me.
